Hello, I'm Vee — photographer, storyteller, and quiet witness to the moments that matter most. Here, I share more than images. I share the feeling behind them — the light, the land, the emotion that made me press the shutter. My hope is that you leave here seeing photography not as something you schedule, but as something you feel.

Stepping in front of the camera can feel nerve-wracking—whether it’s for updated headshots, a family session, or a creative portrait shoot. I know that the best portraits happen when you feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely yourself. If you’ve ever worried about being “awkward” in photos, this guide will help you feel at ease and actually enjoy the experience.

1. Choose a Photographer You Connect With

The biggest key to a relaxed portrait session is working with someone who understands your personality and vision. Look for a photographer whose portfolio matches the mood you want—whether that’s natural, adventurous, or soulful.  I focus on creating a warm, calm environment so you can let your guard down and trust the process.

2. Wear Something Comfortable and True to You

Your outfit sets the tone for the shoot. Choose clothing that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Neutral tones, earthy textures, and layers always photograph beautifully outdoors. Avoid anything too tight or distracting so you can move naturally during your portrait session.

Pro Tip: Bring a cozy sweater, a scarf, or a jacket you love—you’ll not only stay comfortable but also have variety in your images.

3. Focus on the Experience, Not Just the Photos

Instead of thinking “I need to look perfect,” shift your mindset to enjoying the moment. Laugh, move around, and interact naturally with the environment. Whether we’re shooting in the forest, by the coast, or in the mountains, I’ll guide you through gentle prompts so your portraits feel genuine and effortless.

4. Practice Gentle Breathing and Movement

If you’re feeling nervous before your session, take a few slow breaths. Shake out your arms, walk around, and let your body loosen up. Portrait photography looks most authentic when your body language feels relaxed and unposed.

5. Trust Your Photographer’s Guidance

It’s normal to worry about “what to do with your hands” or “how to stand.” Don’t stress—I’ll direct you every step of the way. Instead of stiff poses, I’ll suggest natural movements and prompts that capture your true personality. My job is to make sure you look and feel your best throughout the session.

6. Bring a Personal Touch

To feel more at home in front of the camera, consider bringing something meaningful—a hat, flowers, even a favourite book. Little details can help you feel grounded and give your portraits an extra layer of personality.

7. Remember: It’s About Story, Not Perfection

The most powerful portraits aren’t about having every hair in place—they’re about emotion, connection, and authenticity. When you let go of perfection, you open the door to photographs that truly reflect who you are.

Final Thoughts

Feeling relaxed during a portrait session is all about trust, comfort, and presence. With the right photographer, you won’t just walk away with beautiful images—you’ll walk away with a memory of a meaningful experience.
